HOW QA AUTOMATION CAN SERVE AS A SPRINGBOARD TO THE ROLE OF SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER IN TEST (SDET)
In the evolving digital landscape and the increasing complexity of software development processes, the integration of traditional quality assurance (QA) methods with modern approaches has become particularly relevant. This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the transformation of the QA specialist role in the context of transitioning to the position of Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET).Based on a literature review, a theoretical foundation distinguishing the core approaches of QA and the engineering practices of SDET has been formulated, along with a practical roadmap for the transition. The study identifies key factors for successful professional growth, including an in-depth mastery of test automation tools, the development of programming skills, the integration of testing into CI/CD processes, and active engagement within the professional community. The conducted research, which integrated traditional QA knowledge with an engineering mindset through the implementation of modern analytical methodologies and experimental testing, confirmed the hypothesis that this synergy contributes to the development of a new level of competence and enhances the quality of software development. The practical significance of this study lies in the potential application of the proposed model for building career growth strategies for professionals in response to the modern demands of the IT industry. The article will be of interest to QA specialists, scientific and practical researchers, and technology innovators seeking to deeply integrate contemporary automated testing methodologies with software development to evolve into the role of a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET).
