SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF BIOMASS DERIVED Si3N4 AND MODIFIED GRANITE DUST PARTICLE REINFORCED NANOCOMPOSITE COATING FOR THERMAL AND BARRIER PROPERTIES

Human demands concerning natural benefits have been increasing in recent decades, and the emergence of newer innovations in material science has increased. This study also aims to evaluate the performance of biofiller particles of Silicon nitride (Si 3 N 4 ) filler particles and granite dust particles reinforced vinyl ester composite. The uniqueness of this study is the surface treatment on peanut husk extracted Si 3 N 4 filler particles and refinement of industrial waste granite dust particles reinforced vinyl ester composite and analysis of their thermal stability, and barrier properties in accordance with ASTM standards. The reinforcement of 2[Formula: see text]vol.% of Si 3 N 4 filler particles on composite V24 shows a thermal decomposition of 425 ∘ C, and mass loss % of 33.4, thermal conductivity of 0.43[Formula: see text]W/mK, which is 9.53% higher temperature and 246% higher mass loss and 79.16% better heat transfer than plain vinyl ester composite. Similarly, water absorption of 0.35% was obtained when 2 vol.% of Si 3 N 4 filler particles on composite V24 and it is 66.67% better than vinyl ester composite V. Moreover, barrier properties under water vapor permeability and oxygen permeability show better barrier characters of 5.61% and [Formula: see text] [Formula: see text]cc/m 2 .d.atm., when reinforcement of 2[Formula: see text]vol.% of Si 3 N 4 filler particles on composite V24 and 2[Formula: see text]vol.% of granite dust particles on composite V14 respectively. Therefore, the lightweight composite with active filler particle reinforcement exhibits improved thermal stability and barrier qualities, making it suitable for use as a coating in the automation, aviation, and marine shipbuilding industries as well as in packaging-based applications.
