COMPARISON OF ELECTROCHEMICAL CORROSION BEHAVIOR OF CHROMIUM CARBIDE AND TUNGSTEN CARBIDE ON DSS2205 BY ATMOSPHERIC PLASMA COATING

The electrochemical corrosion behavior of tungsten carbide (WC) and chromium carbide (Cr 3 C[Formula: see text] coatings on duplex stainless steel (DSS) 2205 in a 3.5% sodium chloride (NaCl) solution is examined in this work. Atmospheric plasma spraying was used to create these coatings. Utilizing optical microscopy techniques, the microstructural characteristics of coatings were assessed. Electrochemical tests were used to investigate the corrosion behavior of these composite coatings. According to the results of the Tafel polarization test, Cr 3 C 2 coating exhibited a lower rate of corrosion than other coatings. The improvement in resistance to corrosion of Cr 3 C 2 coatings has been estimated to be about 40% based on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests. This signifies that the coating minimizes corrosion rates, extends structure life, reduces maintenance costs, and enhances the economy.

The improvement in resistance to corrosion of Cr 3 C 2 coatings has been estimated to be about 40% based on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests.
