Malleable Religiosity in Hungarian Society

Abstract According to data from a large sample survey in Hungary in 2017, about 63 percent of the population of the country can be described as religious with the adjective “malleable.” The analysis was to get a differentiated picture of those belonging to this group, that is, those for whom religion does not have a uniform meaning as an identity-forming phenomenon. Ten clusters of people with malleable religiosity were identified. A detailed description of these clusters can contribute to an understanding of the changing meaning of religion in an increasingly broad cultural context.
