Poriwanga: Traces of Ritual Tradition in Bone Lipu (1942–2023)
The Poriwanga ritual tradition is an intangible cultural heritage of the Bone Lipu community in Kulisusu Subdistrict, North Buton Regency, Southeast Sulawesi. This tradition originated from the discovery of a sacred water source and has since become part of the local belief system, passed down through generations. This study aims to explore the dynamics and transformations in the implementation of Poriwanga from 1942 to 2023, particularly in the context of modernization. Using historical methodology including heuristic, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography and supported by field data such as interviews, this research reveals that although there have been changes in visual and technical aspects such as clothing, tools, gender participation, and offerings the core values of collectivity, ecological harmony, and cultural identity remain preserved. These findings demonstrate that Poriwanga is an adaptive tradition capable of responding to the changing times without losing its cultural essence.
