Experimental Research on Atmospheric Non‐Thermal Plasma Devices Under Positive and Negative Discharge Operating Conditions: Effects on Ionic Wind and Generated Species

ABSTRACT This research investigates the effects of electrical and geometric parameters in an electro‐hydrodynamic (EHD) plasma system using atmospheric non‐thermal plasma (ANTP) generated by corona discharge. Focusing on ionic wind generation and the production of reactive species (ozone and nitrogen dioxide), the study systematically varies discharge polarity and key parameters to measure mass flow rates and correlate them with total current. Findings reveal a linear increase in O 3 and NO 2 production with total current, with negative discharge achieving up to 10 times higher production rates. Optical emission spectroscopy (OES) highlights dominant nitrogen bands at (337.1 and 357 nm), with emission intensities 4−4.5 times greater in the negative discharge, showing a direct linear relationship with current.
