Surgical explantation of transcatheter aortic valve for paraprosthetic regurgitation and leaflet degeneration
Aortic stenosis is the most common heart valve disease worldwide. Despite the rapid development of interventional treatments, symptomatic aortic stenosis is still associated with high morbidity and mortality. In symptomatic severe aortic stenosis, drug therapy does not prolong the patient’s life, and survival is significantly lower without correction of stenosis. The first successful TAVI was performed in 2002. TAVI is increasingly used in younger patients with lower surgical risk. Therefore, the number of patients with bioprosthetic degeneration is increasing. We present surgical explantation of transcatheter biological valve due to paraprosthetic regurgitation and leaflet degeneration.
