Complications of endovascular surgery on lower limb arteries: prevention and treatment
In recent years, the number of endovascular interventions on lower limb arteries has steadily increased. This trend is associated with active development of endovascular diagnostic and treatment methods, as well as wider indications for endovascular surgeries. Currently, endovascular methods are actively employed for all types of TASC II lesions including type D. Despite minimally invasive nature of endovascular interventions, these procedures are not without complications. The last ones can significantly affect postoperative outcomes, hospital-stay and in some cases lead to limb loss or death. Furthermore, treatment costs increase due to these complications. Therefore, analysis of incidence, causes, and preventive and treatment methods for these complications is of great practical interest. The purpose of this article is to review available literature data on the incidence of complications after endovascular interventions on lower limb arteries, as well as to explore methods for their prevention and treatment.
