SUSTAINABILITY IN TRAVEL AND TOURISM INDUSTRY AT GREECE

This paper aims to present and demonstrate the importance of the hoteliers’ role and the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels’ role as hospitality industry stakeholders regarding environmental sustainability and technological advancement. Sustainability plays a vital role in the hospitality industry since a hotel’s sustainable practices positively impact customer experience and their likelihood of returning. Going green leads to better loyalty, word-of-mouth marketing and higher customer satisfaction. It will be referred and described issues that have to do with the preservation of our environment such as safeguarding water, saving energy, reducing waste, using recyclable packaging, limiting and eliminating the use of plastics, reusing paper and protecting flora and fauna. Furthermore, this paper seeks to analyze and provide proposals in order for Greece to be technologically and sustainably strengthened in terms of the tourism and travel sector while the responsibility of the hospitality providers is revealed
