The Role of Intravascular Ultrasound In Venous Disease
The role of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) has continued to grow in arterial and venous diseases, particularly in the field of interventional radiology. Its role in iliofemoral venous disease, transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt creation, and inferior vena cava filter placement has become substantial, as evidenced by the increasing literature supporting its use. Despite the proven benefits of IVUS, its utilization in clinical practice lags, possibly due to user discomfort and lack of knowledge of its benefits. This article provides the radiologist with information on the role of IVUS and how it can benefit their practice.
