Histological particularities of bovine dentin
Studies on the microstructure of human dental tissue have sought to understand the histological, chemical, mechanical, and adhesive properties of dental tissues to meet the various demands of aesthetic dentistry. These investigations are frequently carried out in vitro, using dental tissues. However, get healthy human teeth is complicated, as their extraction is only indicated in specific cases, such as severe periodontal disease or the presence of supernumerary teeth. Therefore, there is a need to study alternative dental substrates, such as bovine teeth, since these teeth are made up of tissues similar to those of human teeth. Although bovine teeth have been used in research, few studies have described their histological characteristics in detail. To prepare this manuscript, various databases were consulted and articles published between 2000 and 2024 were reviewed.
