Influence of Silane on Bond Strength of Indirect Resin Restorations
Objetive: To compare the immediate and medium-term microshear bond strength, using different protocols of universal and conventional adhesives with or without silane in indirect resin restorations. Methods: 25 trial bodies with indirect resin (Nexco Paste, Ivoclar Vivadent) were made and randomly divided into 5 groups according to the adhesive strategy used (Scotch Bond Universal, Tetric N Bond Universal, Single bond 2, Silane + Single bond 2, Without adhesive or silane), on which 4 cylinders of dual resin cement were adhered. These were subjected to the microshear bond strength using a universal testing machine immediately and mediately after 3 months of aging. Results: No statistically significant differences were found between the different adhesive systems immediately, the negative control was statistically inferior to the rest of the groups. When analyzing the time factor, a significant reduction in bond strength values was found in the groups with silane, while in the groups without silane the differences between immediate and delayed bonding were not statistically significant. Conclusions: There are no differences in microshear bond strength values between conventional fixation protocols or using universal adhesives. More studies are necessary to evaluate the long-term effect of silane.
