Fostering Language Mediation through Collaborative Translation Learning: A Pedagogical Shift

This qualitative case study investigates how collaborative learning fosters language mediation skills in translation education. Conducted at Institut Prima Bangsa, the study involved 50 purposively selected participants (40 students and 10 instructors) actively engaged in translation pedagogy. Data were collected through interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis, with methodological triangulation applied to ensure validity. Thematic analysis revealed that collaborative learning enhances translation accuracy, strategic thinking, cultural sensitivity, and adaptability through student engagement, peer interaction, problem-solving, and technology use. Rather than applying a cause-effect framework, the study provides nuanced insights into how collaboration enriches translation competence, emphasizing the pedagogical value of interactive, student-centered approaches in cultivating language mediation proficiency. Keywords: Collaborative translation learning; Language mediation; Pedagogical shift
