Optimal Location and Sizing of Distributed Generation Using Horse Herd Optimization
This paper proposes the use of the Horse Herd Optimisation (HHO) algorithm in the analysis of the optimal sizing of DG units in the distribution system. As more Distributed Generation (DG) is incorporated into power distribution networks, proper sizing and location of DG units is important for improving system performance. HHO algorithm derived from the herd behavior and self-organizing characteristics of horses is used for proper positioning and dimensioning of Distributed Generation units in order to minimize loss and improve voltage profile. HHO is better than conventional PSO methods in terms of exploration-exploitation trade-off making it more appropriate for complex optimization. The performance of the proposed method is tested on the IEEE 33-bus test system in MATLAB. This research confirms HHO as an effective meta heuristic for DG optimization and opens the way for more effective and reliable power systems.
