DC-DC Cascode Converter-Based Speed Control of PMBLDC Motors for EV Drive Applications
This paper proposes a DC-DC cascode buck-boost converter-based speed control of permanent magnet brushless DC (PMBLDC) motors. The control scheme consists of a voltage source inverter (VSI) that is controlled by a commutation logic developed from signals of hall effect sensors. The output voltage of the cascode converter is controlled by a proportional-integral (PI) controller. The primary objective of utilizing this DC-DC cas-code converter is to achieve high voltage gain, thereby improving efficiency by minimizing switching losses. The simulation results show that the proposed control system achieves accurate speed tracking and stable torque performance, even with a sudden increase in speed and torque. The torque profile, back EMF, and speed tracking demonstrate the motor's robustness under real-world conditions, making it suitable for electric vehicles (EVs), The proposed scheme presents a cost-effective solution for PMBLDC motor drives, which require high performance at a relatively low cost. Consequently, it offers a promising alternative for low-power drives, particularly in electric vehicles, robotics, and household appliances.
