Streamer Dynamics in Micro-Contaminated Transformer Oil
The investigation of microparticles' effect on the electric field, space charge density, and streamer dynamics in transformer oil is crucial for understanding its insulating performance. Microparticles create localized distortions in the electric field leading to early streamer inception, increased propagation velocity and more branching. Additionally, the microparticles influence the space charge density by acting as sites for charge accumulation. This uneven distribution of space charge alters the surrounding electric field, contributing to more complex streamer behavior. As the space charge build around the particles, it leads to stronger field gradients, which produces more streamer branches and reduce the dielectric strength of the oil. The combined effects of enhanced electric field distortion and space charge accumulation significantly lower the breakdown voltage of transformer oil, making it more prone to electrical failure. Using COMSOL Multiphysics, this study simulates how microparticles alter these key properties under high-voltage conditions.
