Modeling and Analysis of Multi-Phase Induction Motor Drives
Multi-phase induction motors (MPIMs) provide significant advantages over three-phase induction motors, such as greater power output, reduced torque ripple, enhanced fault tolerance, and increased control flexibility. These features make multiphase drive systems a compelling option for medium and heavy-duty electric vehicle (MHEV) applications. This study focuses specifically on MPIMs, presenting a mathematical model based on vector space decomposition (VSD) technique for MPIMs and generalised this concept for five-phase induction motor (FPIM) drives. Additionally, this paper examines the impact of variable loading conditions on FPIM performance. Simulations were conducted using MATLAB/SIMULINK to develop and analyze the mathematical model under varying load conditions, with results demonstrating the effects of these changes.
