A Control Algorithm Based on Fuzzy Logic Control for PV Systems in a Non Stable Environment

Solar energy plays an important role in the energy sector, achieving a lower environmental impact by being an unlimited source and using fewer resources in energy production. For that reason, Maximum Power Point Tracking controllers (MPPT) are essential to manage a good performance in photovoltaic (PV) systems, leading its electrical parameters to their maximum values. This paper proposes a MPPT algorithm based on Fuzzy Logic Control, using MATLAB/ Simulink to model a PV system being controlled by the algorithm under variable weather conditions and experimental tests with PV panels in Lima, Peru to validate its function. Furthermore, it will be used a DC/DC boost converter model to simulate the performance of different MPPT techniques, showing the advantages of fuzzy logic controller compared with other MPPT algorithms.
