Design of Highly Efficient Switched Reluctance Motor for Heavy Duty Exhaust Fan for Air Ventilation System

A wide variety of motors are present in market for air ventilation system but those are dominated by squirrel cage induction motor. Induction motor has lesser efficiencies in FHP motors. For increasing the efficiency permanent magnet motors like BLDC and PMSM are introduced but they involve the assembly of costly magnets which makes the motor expensive and they have thermal limitations. Switched Reluctance Motor, on the one hand, is more efficient than the Induction Motors as they work on the principle of reluctance torque and doesn't incorporate any rotor bars thus reducing the rotor copper loss. On the other hand, they also do not use magnets thus they have no thermal limitations. This research paper proposes Switched Reluctance Motor with 12 stator poles and 10 rotor poles configuration with efficiency greater than 94% for heavy duty exhaust fan application.
