A Novel Circulating Current Control Technique in A Fast Integrated Onboard Charger

The article introduces a novel three-phase fast, non-isolated integrated onboard charger based on a symmetrical six-phase induction motor (IM). The charger utilizes the drive-train components in the charging process to reduce space, volume, and cost. In the proposed charger circuit, the drive train inverter is used as two parallel connected unity power factor (UPF) rectifiers to form an onboard charger. In parallel-connected UPF rectifiers, there is a problem with circulating currents. To reduce those harmful currents, a novel control technique is proposed in the synchronous reference frame. The interleaved modulation technique is also utilized to reduce ripple current harmonics on both AC and DC sides. The discontinuous pulse width modulation (DPWM) technique is used to reduce switching losses in order to reduce overall charger circuit losses. The DPWM technique results are also compared with the sinusoidal PWM (SPWM) technique. The proposed concept is verified with the help of extensive simulation results.
