Power Management for Renewable Energy Integrated Electric Vehicle Charging Station
The growing adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs) introduces significant challenges, particularly in meeting the rising electricity demand. This situation underscores the importance of incorporating sustainable energy sources at Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS). The main power source for modern charging is a grid, an Energy Storage System (ESS) of the right size and sustainable sources like Photo Voltaic (PV). One significant advancement in this configuration is the real-time cooperation between multiple energy sources, such as the grid, ESS, and PV systems. This integration enables the charging station to operate independently for extended periods, utilizing solar Energy to meet EV charging requirements. The ESS plays a crucial role by storing energy produced by the photovoltaic system, which is used when grid and solar are unavailable. The Energy Management System (EMS) optimizes the use of renewable energy by prioritizing PV power for charging. Doing so reduces reliance on grid electricity, ultimately lowering operational costs and environmental impact. The effectiveness of the EMS has been assessed through simulations of the EVCS under various solar irradiance conditions, evaluating its ability to maximize renewable energy usage and maintain reliable charging services. Integrating PV power, ESS, and EV charging stations grid connectivity with an efficient EMS offers a sustainable solution to the challenges posed by increasing EV adoption, promoting greater energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
