Improvement of Frequency Stability in Airport Microgrids by Nonlinear Generation Control
This paper analyses a remote airport microgrid, incorporating autonomous renewable energy sources (RES) like Archimedes Wave Energy Conversion, Wind Turbine Generator, Solar Tower, and Photovoltaic Energy (PV). Besides, it includes regulated generating units, namely, micro-turbine power generators, biogas turbine generators, and biodiesel generators. The energy storage systems mainly involve electric vehicles, ultracapacitors, and battery energy storage systems. With respect to the microgrid load frequency control and grid stability, a fractional-order proportional-integral-derivative controller is used. The mentioned above optimization techniques are supposed to be used to obtain the controllers' parameters: Chimp Optimization Algorithm, Artificial Rabbit Optimization, and Heap-Based Optimization. It performs better than ARO and CHOA, and thus it shows superior frequency stabilization, less overshot, and a faster settling time as indicated by simulation data. Thus, optimizing the control strategy of a microgrid will provide a strong, scalable approach toward sustainability, flexibility, and reliability for an airport microgrid under various load scenarios.
