Robust Current Control in Lithium-Ion Battery with a Bidirectional Buck-Boost Converter
This paper presents the design and simulation of a bidirectional buck-boost converter for effective lithium-ion battery energy management. The primary objective is to ensure consistent of charging and discharging currents, which are very important for maintaining the long life and performance of the battery system. A proportional-integral (PI) current controller is employed to regulate the energy flow, enabling precise current control during both the charging and discharging cycles. Detailed MATLAB simulations are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed system and demonstrating the PI controller's capability to maintain stable output current under operating conditions. The implementation of the bidirectional converter, combined with the PI control strategy, offers a reliable approach to optimizing lithium-ion battery better performance, enhancing system stability, and ensuring efficient energy utilization in energy storage systems. This work provides valuable insights into the integration of advanced control techniques for improved battery energy management in modern power systems.
