Binary Artemisinin Optimization Algorithm for Optimal Phasor Measurement Unit Placement
For wide area control and monitoring of power systems, for obtaining the real-time data Phasor measurement units are used. These devices play a vital role in power systems to measure the phasor values of voltage and current. It is essential to arrange the position of the PMUs at optimal locations with the minimum number of units and as well as maintaining the grid observability. This paper proposes the new Binary Artemisinin Optimization (BAO) method, a meta-heuristic algorithm that is influenced by the Artemisinin malaria treatment Protocol. For the optimum PMU placement problem, the proposed method is superior for finding the optimum locations and the number of PMUs needed to be minimum while maintaining the grid observability. To find the best Strategy for PMU Placement under normal conditions for 14,30, and 57 IEEE benchmark systems and these test systems are simulated in MATLAB. The proposed outcome results are compared with the existing methods such as Artificial Bee Colony (ABC), Teaching-Learning Based Optimization (TLBO), Binary Linear Programming (BILP), and Branch and Bound Algorithm. The results are more precise, fast convergence, and obtain fewer iterations.
