Integrating Solar Power with Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) Technology for Improved Grid Reliability

This paper addresses the persistent challenge of ‘range anxiety’ in electric vehicle (EV) adoption by integrating Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) charging with solar panels on the source vehicle. The V2G system allows surplus energy, not required for Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging, to be fed back into the grid, thereby enhancing grid stability. It starts by discussing the existing challenges of range anxiety and the limitations of traditional EV charging infrastructure. The paper then elaborates on the design and implementation of solar panels on the source vehicle, emphasizing their efficiency in energy generation. To validate the proposed approach, the perform simulations using MATLAB/Simulink and hardware tests on the Opal-RT simulator, providing a thorough evaluation of our V2G charging system's efficacy. Our contribution lies in advancing innovative solutions for the EV industry, particularly in enhancing grid stability through V2G solutions. This integrated approach underscores the potential of V2G charging, combined with solar panels, in fostering a sustainable and anxiety-free future for EV users. Key objectives include detailing V2G charging mechanisms, outlining solar integration strategies, conducting rigorous simulations and hardware tests, and providing actionable insights for the continued advancement of electric vehicle technology.
