Optimized PID Speed Controller Using Industrial Scenarios Case Study FrED

Proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers are widely utilized in industrial applications where closed-loop control is essential. While several methodologies exist for tuning PID controllers, there is often a lack of hierarchical structures that account for specific industrial scenarios requiring adjustment. This paper proposes implementing an industrial scenario framework within the actuator system of the Fiber Extrusion Device (FrED), which features speed control of a DC motor in a closed-loop configuration. The tuning process of the PID controller is guided by defined industrial scenarios that help establish the coefficients of a loss function, which operational requirements must optimize. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach, illustrating how the PID controller can be optimized to meet industrial demands. This optimization addresses speed response requirements and enhances the overall performance of the industrial scenarios in which the PID controller is deployed. The proposed methodology can be replicated across various industrial equipment to improve performance and adaptability. Simulation results are shown to validate this proposal.
