Battery-Ultracapacitor based Hybrid Energy System for Electric Vehicle Operation
Electric Vehicles are becoming more and more popular due to their affordability and renewability, but the Li-ion battery life-span that powers them needs to be improved. This experimental study proposes a way of increasing the lifespan of Li-ion battery by using Hybrid Energy System. In this system the BLDC motor is run by battery in steady state running condition but the energy source is switched to ultracapacitor during transient. This approach is to combine the hybrid system with BLDC motor and emulate its run condition according to Indian Driving Cycle(IDC). At starting for a few seconds the starting current is 67.2A and characteristics demonstrate that the BLDC motor draws a huge current during transient and it can be switched to ultracapacitor during transient in order to save Battery's Ampere-Hour. This findings offers potential applications of Hybrid Energy System for Electric Vehicles in future. The transient data are observed and stored using Mixed Signal Oscilloscope.
