Energy Management of Grid Connected PV System without Energy Storage Using High Gain Converter for DC Microgrid Applications

The penetration of conventional energy sources is decreasing while energy demand is increasing. Therefore, alternative energy sources are required to ensure an emission-free environment and to meet energy demands, such as photovoltaic (PV) systems. The generating voltage of a PV source is low, so high-voltage gain converters have been developed to meet the required load demands. This article presents a grid-connected PV system using a high-gain converter. The high-gain converter in the proposed system offers several advantages, such as fewer components, design with a single switch, minimal gate driver circuitry, low cost, and high efficiency. The PV source voltage acts as the input to this high-gain converter. The bidirectional DC/AC converter is controlled by hysteresis current control. The active component current for hysteresis current control is generated using the loss component current, load power, and PV power. The aforementioned control strategy maintains power management between the electrical sources and the load. The suggested system is simulated for a 1.2 kW power rating, and the obtained simulation results are presented.
