A Comparative Study of Different Controllers for DC Bus Voltage Control in DC Microgrid
The present scenario in power system is demanding a large number of micro-sources derived from renewable energy and battery storage. Moreover, electronic loads and EV technologies are evolving at a great pace. DC microgrids (DCMG) are found to be more effective for their integration into the system because of reduced converter count and control complexity. The basic variable quantity in focus here is the DC bus voltage whose stability determines and ensures the safe and reliable operation of the DCMG. The stability is achieved with the help of controllers deployed within these micro-sources. The sources considered in the studied DCMG are PV, PMSG-Wind turbine, battery, and AC grid. The proposed work provides the relative study of five different types of controllers - proportional-integral, model predictive controller, sliding mode controller, fuzzy logic controller, and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system. These controllers are incorporated in the outer loop control of the grid side converter to regulate the DBV. The effectiveness of the proposed control is validated through simulation in MATLAB/Simulink environment.
