A D-/H-Band Shared-Aperture Transmitarray Antenna With Independently Controllable Beams Based on Polarization-Conversion Elements and Thin-Film Technology

In this letter, a terahertz dual-band shared-aperture transmitarray antenna (TA), operating in D- and H-bands, is proposed. Elements with 1-bit phase responses are designed based on the polarization-conversion principle. Resonant modes of different orders of the elements are utilized to provide individual phase responses in D- and H-bands, thereby enabling independently controllable beams in the dual frequency bands. When the phase changes by about 180° at 140 GHz, the phase at 260 GHz changes only by 4.66°. Conversely, when the phase changes by about 180° at 260 GHz, the phase at 140 GHz changes only by 2.9°. The designed dual-band TA achieves full aperture utilization across both frequency bands. A prototype is fabricated with the in-house thin-film technology. The experimental results, consistent with the simulated ones, verify that the proposed dual-band TA deflects the beam to 30° at 140 GHz and points it towards the broadside direction at 260 GHz, with peak gains of 19.14 and 20.33 dBi, respectively. It is a promising solution to split beams for terahertz multi-band communication.
