Design and application of a multiphysics simulation process for fiber optic coils based on CAE

Due to their unique advantages, fiber optic gyroscopes have gradually become key devices for achieving precise positioning in aircraft guidance systems. However, the core component of the fiber optic gyroscope, the fiber optic coil, is susceptible to environmental temperature and stress influences. This paper, based on finite element analysis, first derives the theoretical simulation of the physical field in the fiber optic coil and the stress effects of the adhesive on the fiber. It then establishes a multi-physics CAE simulation analysis process for the fiber optic coil, aimed at enhancing the environmental adaptability of the fiber optic gyroscope. Based on this simulation process, the study explores fiber optic coil performance improvement through aspects such as optimization of the outer winding turns, symmetry compensation, and exploration of rapid thermal stabilization methods. Using this simulation process, it is verified that graphene doping can improve the rapid thermal stability of the fiber optic coil, and the stress simulation at the bonding interface suggests optimization measures for the fiber optic coil’s grooving process. Additionally, simulations of hybrid winding and outer-layer winding provide the optimal winding method. Future work will further advance the engineering application of the simulation process.
