Fatigue life prediction of parallel stay cable wires with multiple corrosion pits under variable stress ratios

The fatigue damage problem of stay cable wires under corrosion-repeated load coupling is becoming increasingly prominent. Considering the impact of traffic growth on the fatigue life of stay cable wires, numerical simulations of high strength steel wires with corrosion pits were carried out under variable stress ratios. The effects of the corrosion pit location relationship on the stress intensity factor (SIF) and remaining fatigue life of the stay cable wire were analyzed using the Paris formula and Miner’s rule, respectively. The results show that the spacing and the circumferential angle between double pits have an effect on SIF and the remaining fatigue life of stay cable wires. Compared with the traditional calculation method, the remaining fatigue life under variable stress ratios is reduced. Therefore, the study in this paper provides a reference basis for calculating the remaining fatigue life of stay cable wires.
