Explicit modelling of grain crushing using hypoplasticity for soils and interfaces

The explicit numerical simulation of grain crushing in geotechnical structures is a daunting task. In this study, recent advancements in modeling grain crushing and soil-structure interfaces have been leveraged to address these intricate challenges. The hypoplastic model, which was recently developed for grain crushing, has been extended to meet the needs of explicit simulation. This model has been specifically adapted for application within the narrow interface zone that exists between soil and structural elements. The results of this study indicate that the general methodology for adapting constitutive models is highly effective for explicit calculations. To substantiate this approach, simulations of simple shear experiments were conducted, which successfully demonstrated the effectiveness of the adapted models.
