Analysis of stability against lateral overturning during construction period using small-radius curved girder bridge step-by-step method
The primary focus in constructing curved girder bridges using the step by step method is ensuring sufficient lateral resistance against overturning. Firstly, based on the principle of structural overturning, a simplified calculation method for determining the coefficient of lateral resistance against overturning during the construction phase of curved girder bridges is proposed. Secondly, this method is used to evaluate the lateral overturning stability of a small-radius curved steel box girder bridge constructed using step by step method during the entire construction period. Additionally, a sensitivity analysis investigates the impact of key parameters such as the displacement of girder, the lateral spacing of bearings, and the transverse wind loads on the stability of lateral resistance against overturning during the top pushing construction process. The evaluation results reveal a tendency for inward overturning of small-radius curved steel box girder bridges during the top pushing construction process, particularly when large cantilevers are involved.
