Dr. Etta Pisano: Pioneering radiologist and advocate for women's health
Dr. Pisano is widely recognized and highly respected throughout the world for her seminal contributions to improving women's health. She managed to do this while fostering the careers of an entire generation of breast imagers, most of whom lacked other sponsor mentors, as women, especially Black women and other minorities, are underrepresented at the top echelons of academics. Dr. Pisano prioritized training new leaders in radiology while focusing on research serving underrepresented populations. Dr. Pisano has had a profound impact not only with her ability to visualize and achieve optimized breast cancer screening, but also in her commitment to include those others might overlook in the process. This article was commissioned by the ACR Pipeline Initiative for the Enrichment of Radiology (PIER) mentoring program.
