The impact of internal administrative communication on knowledge sharing between employees and supervisors in public organizations

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of internal administrative communication on knowledge sharing behaviour between subordinates and supervisors at Mohamed Seddik Ben Yahia University, Algeria, which is a publicly owned and operated entity. The researchers utilized a quantitative research method and collected data from 135 employees representing various departments of the university. The researchers employed Penley and Hawkins framework to measure internal administrative communication level. They also developed a scale to assess the level of knowledge sharing behaviour at the university. Data were analysed according to Mean scores, multiple regression analysis and t tests. The findings of the study indicated a positive association between administrative communication and knowledge sharing behaviour. Specifically, communication responsiveness, performance communication and career communication were found to have a positive effect on knowledge sharing between employees and supervisors. However, the study did not find a significant impact for task and personal communication on knowledge sharing behaviour. Lessons and implications for internal administrative communication and knowledge sharing behaviour in Algerian and Arab universities are discussed.
