Economic Impact of Statistical Quality Control in Production Processes

Over recent decades, quality has evolved from a technical requirement to a strategic economic driver in manufacturing. Implementing statistical quality control not only enhances product reliability but also delivers measurable cost savings—by reducing scrap, rework, and warranty claims—and boosts competitive advantage. This paper underscores the economic value of two core statistical inference techniques—parameter estimation and hypothesis testing—in monitoring defect rates. Through illustrative examples, we show how confidence intervals pinpoint process variation and how hypothesis tests validate corrective actions, thereby optimizing resource allocation. By quantifying both direct and indirect cost reductions, we demonstrate that rigorous quality-control protocols yield rapid returns on investment, improve customer satisfaction, and strengthen market positioning. Our findings make a compelling case for integrating statistical methods into production workflows as a means of driving sustainable economic performance.
