A Study of Fish Bite Data Collection System Using Acceleration Sensor for Sabiki Fishing

In this letter, we conduct an initial verification to see if it is possible to detect a fish bite and estimate the water depth of a fishing rig using acceleration data obtained from a device attached to a fishing rod in the case of Sabiki fishing. We developed a prototype of a fish bite data collection system using an off‐the‐shelf and low‐performance device. Through experimental evaluations, we showed the possibility of detecting fish bites using acceleration data. In addition, we confirmed that the smallest mean absolute error of water depth estimation of our proposed system is 0.131 m. © 2025 The Author(s). Abstract
