O konieczności reformy zapisu odmiany niektórych typów angielskich nazw własnych osobowych
The article undertakes a critical analysis of current orthographic norms governing the inflection of English surnames in Polish. The documents developed by the Council for the Polish Language in connection with the ongoing orthographic reform do not provide comprehensive solutions in this domain. A key postulate is the utilization of graphematic tools to develop coherent inflection rules based on a precise phoneme-grapheme relationship. The analysis encompasses various types of English surnames, including those not addressed in previous orthographic guidelines. A significant proposition is the redefining of the apostrophe's function in personal proper name inflection. The second part of the article presents recommendations aimed at standardizing and simplifying notation while simultaneously preserving the original orthography and pronunciation as close to the original as possible.
