Russia-Ukraine War: the gendered effects of the war on men, women, and children
The gendered effects of the Russian-Ukraine war on men, women, and children which began with Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 and subsequent escalation to Donetsk and Luhansk have renewed the feminist or gender discourse in international relations and politics. The paper is based on Feminism. The Russia-Ukraine war does not only affect the armies of both states as many might conceive it, but the war has exposed men, women, and children possibly to abuse, exploitation, violence, displacement, poverty, unemployment, health problems, and malnutrition. The yawning puzzle many would want answered is what is the place of gender in war such as the Russian-Ukraine war? The world history has been largely male or female, with one group being dominant while the other is marginalized and repressed. Gender studies attempt to deconstruct first and foremost the androcentric discourses and reconstruct the narrative from the standpoint of women who have been marginalized.
