The Brahmaeidae and Saturniidae of Laos (Lepidoptera)

In the present study, a list of two species of the Brahmaeidae Swinhoe, 1892 and forty-one species of the Saturniidae Boisduval, [1837] from Laos is provided. Three new species and one new subspecies are described: Cricula gafti Spitsyn & Spitsyna, sp. nov., Lemaireia gulo Spitsyn & Spitsyna, sp. nov., Lemaireia cheshiri Spitsyn & Spitsyna, sp. nov., and Loepa peggyae bolovena Spitsyn & Spitsyna, ssp. nov. New synonymies are established: Antheraea assamensis (Helfer, 1837) = Antheraea inthanonensis Paukstadt & Paukstadt, 2013 syn. nov. = Antheraea tenasserimensis Paukstadt & Paukstadt, 2013 syn. nov.; Antheraea frithi Moore, 1859 = Antheraea larissoides Bouvier, 1928 syn. nov.; Cricula trifenestrata (Helfer, 1837) = Cricula andamanica Jordan, 1909 syn. nov. Taxonomic statuses are revised: Samia canningi fulva Jordan, 1911 comb. nov. & stat. rev., Antheraea ridlyi Moore, 1892 stat. rev., Antheraea ridlyi siriae Paukstadt & van Schayck, 2022 comb. nov. & stat. rev., Antheraea ridlyi palawarissa Brechlin, 2014 comb. nov., Antheraea tonkinensis luteofrithi Naumann, Nässig & Löffler, 2017 comb. nov. & stat. rev., Antheraea tonkinensis harndti Naumann, 1999 comb. nov. & stat. rev., and Lemaireia aureopeplus Nässig & Holloway, 1988 stat. rev. Eight taxa are redescribed, their external and genital morphology are illustrated. Since the male genitalia of most Saturniidae species are not illustrated or such illustrations are inaccessible, the male genitalia of thirty-four taxa of this family are illustrated here. Nine taxa are reported from Laos for the first time, and new data on the distribution of eighteen taxa are provided. New COI sequences of twenty-seven taxa from Laos are obtained.
