Module development for the ATLAS ITk pixel detector
At the high-luminosity LHC, the instantaneous luminosity will reach unprecedented values, resulting in about 200 proton-proton interactions in a typical bunch crossing. The current ATLAS inner detector will be replaced by an all-silicon system, the new ATLAS inner tracker (ITk). The innermost part of ITk will consist of a state-of-the-art pixel detector, for which about 12,000 pixel modules are being assembled. In this document, we start with a short description of the pixel module layout followed by a summary of the organization and current timeline of the module production. The different assembly procedures and challenges found during the pixel module prototyping phase are then described. Finally, the quality control process is outlined, accompanied by a brief description of the diverse test benches currently being developed for its execution.
