DC Motor Speed Control Using Fuzzy Logic

In this paper, the Silicon Controlled Rectifier (SCR) circuit has been utilized to control the speed of a DC motor by regulating the power supplied to the motor. Traditional methods for controlling DC motor speed often face challenges like nonlinearities and system uncertainties. By considering these facts, in order to provide precise and efficient speed control of DC motors, a fuzzy logic-based approach is proposed. The fuzzy logic controller is designed to adjust adaptively the firing angle of the SCR, hence modulating the voltage applied to the motor toward getting the desired speed. The experimental results clearly show significant improvements in both speed stability and response time compared to conventional methods. This research enhances the potential of fuzzy logic in the improvement of a DC motor control system performance, and its applications cut across a number of industrial applications.
