Wideband and Tunable Terahertz Metamaterial Absorber Using Vanadium Dioxide
In this paper, we have presented a unit cell metamaterial structure of rectangular shape based on phase change property of Vanadium dioxide's (VO<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf>) and applicable as wideband tunable terahertz Metamaterial Perfect Absorber (MPA). Here, above 90% absorption is reported with excellent bandwidth of 4.23 THz at VO<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf> conductivity 1.35xl05 S/m. Output is tunable in 4% to 97.8% range by changing the conductivity with respect to change in temperature. The proposed absorber is polarization insensitive. Permittivity, permeability, impedance, reflection coefficient, and electric field distribution are all thoroughly examined. The investigation validates the destructive interference and impedance matching theories for perfect absorption. The suggested absorber is useful for a wide range of fascinating applications, such as imaging, sensing, and terahertz modulation in wireless communication.
