Downlink Throughput, SINR & Coverage Analysis in Urban Scenario for LTE & mmWave 5G NR MIMO
5G New Radio (NR) is a global standard for 5G wireless air interface as it provides more responsive and faster mobile experiences. Calculating 5G NR throughput and Signal-to-Interference-plus-Noise Ratio (SINR) helps network operators evaluate the effectiveness of their network design, configuration, and optimization. The urban scenario is one of the five deployment scenarios established by the 3GPP that use mmWave technology. A Wireless InSite, Wireless propagation simulation study was undertaken to estimate the effect of precoding schemes at 5G MIMO, BS and various diversity combining techniques at the UE in presence of multipath interactions and scatterers in Urban Scenario. When compared to LTE, SISO at 1.8 GHz, beamforming in a mmWave 5G NR cellular network at 28 GHz improves downlink throughput by more than 6 times. SINR and coverage for LTE network was higher than mmWave 5G which improved significantly with large array gains of MIMO system and beamforming coming relatively close to LTE. Best network performance for the defined user distribution was achievable with combination of MRT precoding at BS with Maximum Ratio Combining (MRC) at UE
