Three Possible Dual-Band and Dual-Linearly Polarized Antenna Configurations for WLAN and UHF-RFID Applications Using Metamaterial

In order to improve WLAN and UHF-RFID system dependability, this study proposes three dual-band, dual-linearly polarized antenna topologies that make use of metamaterial techniques. The core design consists of a square patch emitting broadside at 865 MHz and 2.45 GHz with an outside ring. S3 and S4, two metamaterial superstrates, preserve WLAN performance while switching the lower band to 905 MHz for North American UHF-RFID compatibility. S4 offers a backside beam at 905 MHz, whereas S3 permits a bi-directional pattern. These antennas offer enhanced size, gain, and bandwidth with a small λ<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">0</inf>/24.4 profile at 2.45 GHz, which makes them perfect for RFID and WLAN applications. These characteristics make the antennas extremely effective, versatile, and appropriate for WLAN systems and RFID readers, where the WLAN channel acts as a platform for the transmission of data from RFID tags.
