Electrocatalytic Reduction of CO2 to Formate by Mononuclear Mo‐Diimine Complexes Through a Mo‐Hydride Intermediate
Abstract Electrochemical conversion of CO 2 to value‐added products is an attractive approach to mitigating environmental impacts caused by human consumption of fossil fuels, and formic acid is the only economically viable liquid product from CO 2 reduction. In this study, we report on a new mononuclear Mo(Diimine) complex that can electrocatalyze CO 2 reduction to formate with high selectivity. We show that the catalysis proceeds through a metal‐hydride intermediate and present spectroscopic identification of the intermediate.
