High-performance lithium-ion battery anode Materials: Synthesis and analysis of core-shell composites TiO2@Mn2O3

The development of high-performance lithium-ion battery (LIB) anode materials is essential for addressing growing energy demands. Traditional graphite anodes, limited by a theoretical capacity of 372 mAh/g. In this study, we synthesized core-shell TiO 2 @Mn 2 O 3 microspheres by coating Mn 2 O 3 onto anatase TiO 2 microspheres. The TiO 2 @Mn 2 O 3 anode exhibited an increased specific capacity of 486 mAh/g after 100 cycles and retained 204.8 mAh/g even after 500 cycles at a current density of 2C. Furthermore, first-principles calculations revealed that the TiO 2 @Mn 2 O 3 heterostructure narrowed the band gap, improved electronic conductivity, and enhanced lithium-ion storage and transport properties. The synergistic effects between TiO 2 and Mn 2 O 3 contributed to superior cycling stability, higher capacity retention, and enhanced rate capabilities. Our work establishes a promising strategy for developing high-capacity, durable anode materials to advance the performance of next-generation LIBs, catering to the ever-growing demand for efficient energy storage solutions.
