The onset mechanism of flash sintering dense 8YSZ
In this paper, the onset mechanism of flash sintering fully dense 8YSZ was investigated. The conductivity behavior during the incubation stage has been measured, it indicated the oxygen vacancy diffusion induces the non-linear conductivity besides the Joule heating. When the blackening front closed to the anode, the flash event was triggered. The asymmetric temperature distribution along the sample has been recorded at the full process, the highest temperature is located between the center point and the anode, and the cathode had the lowest temperature. We believe the transition from ionic to mixed conductivity with the contribution of oxygen vacancy and internal reaction dominated the onset process.
