A Scenario Analysis of a Folk Pagan Intentional Community
This work presents a scenario analysis of the establishment of a Folk Pagan intentional community in North America. It considers the form of private governance likely to emanate from an Asatru Folk Assembly (AFA) intentional community and what impact such a phenomenon would have on both residents from the local community and those who live in the vicinity of a Folk Pagan intentional community as well as internal AFA members who live in the intentional community proper. This work theory tests the futuristic trajectories the AFA may take as the organization establishes itself in American mainstream society through property ownership. Altogether, the scenario analysis depicted in this paper lends support to some aspects of theory related to the AFA being a haven for racists while simultaneously serving as a space for the de-escalation of more radical forms of anti-sociality and the promotion of more beneficial ties between de-escalating racists and mainstream society (Calico 2022, 205–206, 211). On balance, the AFA’s organizational future will likely be a combination of factors taken from both existing theories about how the AFA will relate to mainstream society going forward.
